Campaign season is ramping up, and that means it’s high time I explored some of the political successes PostcardMania has experienced. In this five part series, I’m going to dissect five of our most successful political postcard campaigns and pull out specific, replicable actions that caused their success.

So, for the public service hopefuls out there, make sure you check back and learn the specific actions that will help you win your election this fall (or summer)!

Campaign 1: “Gary for School Board”

Former Fire Chief Stu Gary was running for a school board seat in his hometown of Livermore, CA, and he wanted a strong final push to get his name out. He was running against two incumbents, so he knew he needed to make a great impression.

The campaign he ran was a large, 12,000 piece mailing one week before Election Day. As you can see from the card, he highlighted his former public service as the town’s Fire Chief, his Livermore roots, and the fact that he had two kids using the Livermore public education system.

The results were astounding. Here is what happened in Stu’s own words:

I not only blew out two incumbents, but got more votes than any other school candidate in the last three elections! We received a LOT of feedback on the postcard design and I am telling everyone where they came from!

Political Advertising Takeaways:

  • A strong finish is VITAL. Many voters make up their mind in the final week leading up to Election Day.
  • Make a strong push and reap a lion’s share of those votes!

Finish strong,
Shaun
